Abtenau, in Austria (in the Salzburg region) is part of the Dachstein West Ski Area. It has 5 ski lifts (1 chair lifts, 4 surface lifts) and offers skiers 487 metres (1601 feet) of vertical descent. Abtenau has 7 pistes with a total length of 9 kilometers (5.5 miles). Abtenau is best suited to beginner skiers and snowboarders but there is some terrain for both expert and intermediates. The closest train station to Abtenau is at Golling. There is accommodation located close to the pistes but we would welcome additional information about any hotels or chalets in Abtenau.

I have just returned from Abtenau and thought the skiing was fantastic with loads and loads of snow. Both my sons (Ryan and Aaran) are now fantastic skiers. Just a word of warning if you cannot ski though, the nursery slope is closed for some reason. Apart from that Abtenau is wonderful, a beautiful village and has friendly locals; well worth a visit.
